STEAM

The acronym STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) first appeared in the USA in 2001 and referred to the integrated and unified planning of the teaching of its individual areas at all levels of education. Proposals to introduce Science, Technology, Engineering, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM in Education) into the Secondary School Curricula in an integrated way have been developed in some countries for at least three decades.

Research has shown that integrative approaches to teaching and learning improve student interest and progress in STEM learning skills. STEM learning experiences prepare students for the 21st century global economy, and students need a solid STEM knowledge base to become ready for higher education and employment. The importance and value of STEM in education has led to the need for significant national education and curriculum reform (Barcelona, 2014).
